The challenges in automotive engineering
In automotive engineering, it is becoming more difficult to meet all the requirements for a cleaner environment and, at the same time, meet other legislative and customer demands. Thus, emissions have to be reduced by using more sophisticated engine technologies (e.g. injection pumps, EGR, traps, catalysts). Customer demands for high levels of comfort (air conditioning, high maximum speed, power), are contrary to the target of further reducing exhaust emissions and CO2 emissions in the future (see Figure 1).
